August 13, 2025, Jersey City, NJ – Throughout the United States, the stress of locating and registering for college courses significantly affects students and registrars. New and continuing students struggle to identify classes offered on days and at times that are convenient for them while also ensuring they are fulfilling all of their general education and major requirements. Creating a schedule that meets students' needs requires significant collaboration among faculty, academic administrators, and the Office of the Registrar.
Ӱ (HCCC) previously handled course scheduling manually for more than 90 degree and certificate programs and more than 500 unique courses. The process prompted hundreds of emails about updates, questions, or revision requests during each scheduling cycle, creating inefficiencies, delayed updates, and increased likelihood of human error. A lack of centralized information made collaboration difficult and created scheduling bottlenecks.
Two years ago, HCCC rolled out Coursedog Scheduling Module, an intelligent academic operations platform that cuts through the tedious, time-intensive processes with a transparent, trackable system. The impact has been substantial. Coursedog has helped HCCC reduce 85% of emails related to scheduling, standardized workflows, reduced errors, and improved communication across offices. For the first time, the College was able to create course schedules one year in advance.
The College has received the 2025 Coursedog Academic Operations Roll Out Award in recognition for HCCC’s successful implementation of the College’s Scheduling Module. The award was accepted at Coursedog’s Academic Operations Conference in Chicago by Dr. Alison Wakefield, HCCC Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Irma Williams, the College’s Associate Registrar.
To roll out Coursedog Scheduling, Ms. Williams collaborated with HCCC’s four academic school deans, more than 30 faculty coordinators, and HCCC Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Assessment Dr. Heather DeVries. Ms. Williams facilitated and delivered training for coordinators to learn about the product in real time and build consistency across processes. She also tailored trainings to the collaborators’ varying degrees of technology proficiency and continues to meet with Coursedog weekly to refine processes.
“Everything we do at Ӱ is about student success,” said HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber. “Utilizing Coursedog has dramatically improved students’ scheduling, reduced administrative tasks, and enhanced operations efficiency. We are very proud of the difference the Coursedog process is making, and we applaud Dr. Wakefield and Ms. Williams for their leadership.”
